The revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2), which sets stricter requirements for authenticating online payments, is another example of their innovation, at least regulatory-wise. While these mandates do not impact American banks, service providers and merchants from a legal standpoint, they definitely raise important points for the U.S. to consider.
COVID has delayed the second Payment Services Directive, or PSD2, in Europe, allowing card and payment providers to meet new authentication required standards by December 31, 2020.
